Stradivarius

Spread the love

Rayon embroidery thread, pearl cotton, Tyvek, watercolor

What makes a Stradivarius sing? No single secret—just a perfect alchemy of choices. The luthier selects the right woods, layers the varnish, and tensions the strings so precisely that no one can replicate its music.

I built this sculptural work to echo that mystery. I suspended rayon embroidery thread, spaghetti thread, and painted Tyvek between panes of museum glass like sound waves caught mid-air. The layered textures—soft, strong, whispering—become visual music: a silent composition inviting the viewer to listen.

The luthier crafts the instrument. The musician gives it voice. Here, the viewer becomes the listener, leaning closer to hear what cannot be spoken, only felt.
